My Fashion Journey
My name is Momoyo Stoby, founder and designer of MOMOYO STOBY FASHION. I create one-of-a-kind garments and bags by giving new life to materials that have completed their original purpose, such as Showa-era(1926-1989) Japanese tenugui cotton towels, vintage nobori banners, and even older textiles.
There is one phrase that lies at the heart of my work:
“Once Vintage. Now the Spotlight.” どんなに古い布も主役になれる
Vintage textiles often carry fading, wear, and signs of age. Rather than seeing these as imperfections, I see them as traces of time, memory, and the life each fabric has lived. By embracing these unique qualities, I transform old materials into pieces that can shine once again in contemporary fashion and everyday life.
My creations are not mass-produced. Each piece has its own character and presence — truly a “wearable story” and one-of-a-kind. Through my work, I hope to share the beauty of Japanese vintage textiles and handcraft with people both in Japan and around the world.
Since its founding, MOMOYO STOBY FASHION has sold pieces internationally.
In 2025, the brand exhibited at NY NOW Summer, participated in Fashion Week Brooklyn in New York in Fall 2025, in November, FWBK to Tokyo Editorial photo shoot and returned to the same event for its FWBK Spring 2026 runway show.
In December 2025, the brand was featured in the U.S.-based online publication Yamato Magazine.
In February 2026, it was featured in the U.S. magazine (the) MAGAZINE.
In April 2026, Senken Shimbun, a leading Japanese fashion newspaper, published an article about MOMOYO STOBY FASHION’s runway presentation at Fashion Week Brooklyn Spring 2026.
"A very special thank you to everyone that's supported me and continue to support me."
